After 500 years, the resurgence of interest in Judaism by descendants of Anousim who were forcibly converted to Christianity in Spain and Portugal is nothing short of a miracle. Since hundreds who did not submit were burned at the stake in autos-de-fe, some have likened this Phoenix-like rebirth to life reviving out of the ashes.

So we were delighted when we came across this creation by Deborah Potash Brodie of Dor L’Dor. Measuring three quarters of an inch by three quarters of an inch, it is a lapel pin fashioned of sterling silver with gold plate, depicting the Hebrew letter Chai (life) coming out of Aish (fire).

We thought that wearing this pin would be the perfect way for Anousim and friends of Anousim to honor this tragic chapter in our history and identify with the revitalization of this community.
